Sequel Systems says the Electronic Prescribe (E-Prescribe) program, in which paper-based health records would be converted to electronic health records (EHRs), would be beneficial to hospital-based and managed services organizations. This not only reduces medical errors made in the reading of written prescriptions - which results in increased liability - but also offers financial incentives by receiving increases in Medicare reimbursements to those organizations that adopt the program.

Rep. Wolf Says Entitlement Programs Could Affect U.S. Bond Rating
Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) on Friday in a letter to President Obama said that the U.S. could lose its triple-A bond rating if Congress does not act quickly to overhaul U.S. entitlement programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, and reduce federal debt, the AP/Detroit News reports.Several lawmakers in Congress over the past two years have introduced bills to create a bipartisan task force to address the growing costs and potential insolvency of entitlement programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid. Wolf is a co-author of one such bill (HR 1557). A federal report issued earlier this month found that the trust fund Medicare uses to pay for beneficiaries" hospital care will be insolvent by 2017, two years earlier than previously predicted.According to the legislation, the task force would be responsible for developing a "grand bargain" package of recommendations to Congress on tax increases and benefits related to the entitlement programs. However, the task force has been opposed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), several top congressional committee leaders and White House aides who said that other priorities, such as a health care system overhaul, need to be addressed first.Wolf said, "The fact that the leadership has been opposed to it has been a problem," adding, "There"s an economic tsunami off the coast and it"s ready to wipe us out." Peterson Foundation, said that currently the potential for the task force is not good but that it should improve as the economy recovers and Congress can offer more attention to the plan (Raum, AP/Detroit News, 5/24). Drug Crimes In Canada Cause Continuing Problems For Small Communities

The Narconon drug rehab program has noticed a trend of many drug addicts being involved with drug related charges due to their addiction. "You can have the everyday functioning addict who is battling a drug addiction, and just one day gets caught by police for possession of a small amount," comments Nick Hayes, a representative of Narconon Trois-Rivieres. "This is an all too common situation for many people who are involved in a drug addiction." More people are using illicit drugs in Canada, in fact Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada, where the Narconon drug rehab program is located, is one of the leading cities in Canada for drug crimes. "There are so many youth in Trois-Rivieres who are addicted to different drugs like speed, ecstasy, marijuana, and even cocaine. These teens get caught up with the law and start heading down the wrong path at a very young age," says Nick. With Canada being one of the top distributors and producers of synthetic drugs, according to the United Nations 2009 Drug Report, it makes sense for the illicit drug crimes to be on a continuous rise in the country. Even though marijuana is still the number one drug responsible for the majority of the drug crimes in Canada, other drugs such as ecstasy, crystal meth and cocaine, are catching up and are responsible for more drug crimes each year. Statistics Canada indicated drug crimes reaching over the 100,000 mark and that this was combined with the crime rate reaching a thirty-year low. This is an unusual turn that the crime rate reached a thirty-year low, but illicit drug crimes reach a thirty-year high. Various police forces believe that this is due to the police coming down on drugs that have caused opposite trends. Victoria and Abbotsford, both located in British Columbia, and Trois-Rivieres and Gatineau, both located in Quebec, followed on the list. Youth drug crimes made up 19% of all the cases in Canada, while two-thirds of the drug crimes in Canada all involved marijuana Narconon Trois-Rivieres
